The T20 match was introduced in the year 2003, by the England and Wales cricket board. It is a shortened form of cricket. Each of the teams gets 20 overs to play the whole game and has a 15 minutes innings break too. Just like a one-day match, the player plays the T20 series. Each team has eleven members and various countries play together. 

The t20 game is played on ordinary cricket grounds with all the rules applicable on one-day rules. There are a lot of rules and regulations to be followed while playing T20 cricket, some are minor whether some are major. In this article, you will get to know about some of the rules of the T20. 

These are a few common rules, which are modified in each time game and used differently in all the tournaments. 

  • There are twenty overs for each team in the game. 
  • Each bowler is allowed to deliver the bowl only for a maximum of four overs. 
  • There are few fielding restrictions for the first six overs – there are two fielders set to bowl outside the circle and with a minimum of two fixed fielders.
  • The next batsman is given 90 seconds to come to the crease after a fall of a wicket, otherwise, the batsman is disqualified. 
  • There is a 15 minutes break between the innings. And got 20 overs to be covered in 80 minutes. 
  • For a no-ball, 1 run is awarded to the batsman for the free hit or no-ball.

Some of the major rules for every T20 cricket 

  • Free Hit – The free hit is a penalty that is applied to a bowler when he delivers a no-ball by violating the rules of T20 and moving forward from the mark. If such a ball is delivered then the batsman has not declared run out. The batsman is allowed and given a free swing on such balls. 
  • Five run penalty – In T20 cricket, five runs can be awarded to the team by the umpire, when he feels like the opposing team is wasting the time knowingly. This rule is designed to keep the game in progress without any hurdle.
  • The 90-second rule – In a T20 match, if the wicket has been fallen then the next batsman should come and take his place at the wicket or at the bowler’s end within 90 seconds. If the batsman fails to take the position then he can be disqualified in the match from batting.
