Cricket is an outdoor sport played between two teams. This sport has come to be from the late 16th century. It had first originated in South-East England and become England’s National sport in the 18th century. Later it was developing globally in the 19th and 20th centuries. From 1844, International matches were played and test cricket started from 1877. It was the second popular sport after football in the world. Hundred countries and territories govern the International Cricket Council but only 12 currently play the Test Cricket match. This game is so popular in some countries that IPL betting is flourishing in various ways.

The Game

Each team has eleven players. The field size is in variable size and shape. Professionals mainly prepare the field. This includes proper mowing, leveling, rolling, and fertilizing of the ground. The field is grassy and usually a diameter of 150 to 160 yards (136 to 151 meters). The boundary is sometimes painted in white or a rope is placed at the outer edge of the ground. The ground is mainly oval in shape but according to the Lawbook of Cricket; there is no mention of the specified shape or size of the field.

The Pitch

The most important part of Cricket is the pitch. It is the place where the batsman played his or her match. This area is generally prepared in the center of the ground. A team earns its score when a batsman runs the length of the pitch after hitting the ball with the bat. However, there may be other ways too to earn the score like hitting four or six during the game. If the batsman is unable to earn any runs from the ball, then it is declared dead ball and returned to the bowler.

What is Cricket

The Toss

Before starting the game, a toss is to be made between the two teams. The captain of both the team has to participate in the process. The coin determines which team will bat or ball first. The captain who wins the toss opts based on his tactical consideration like weather condition or the venue of the cricket match.

Turns

The team that is batting tries to earn the maximum score while the bowling team tries to put down the wickets of the opponent team. While the team who is bowling earlier takes up the batting and tries to chase the score.

No. of people on the field

In the professional match, there are fifteen people on the ground. Two empires on the field look after the match in close view. There are two batsmen from the opposing team, one is the striker who is facing the ball and another one is the non-striker. Their role is interchangeable as they run along with the pitch. At last, there are 11 players on the other team. One is a bowler, one is a wicketkeeper and the other nine are fielders.

The main objective

The main target of the team is to score more than the previous team and complete the match in limited-overs. In limited or short over matches, like T20, winning the game is executed by earning more runs, even if the opposition has not been completely out. Nevertheless, in the test crickets, it is important to earn more runs and dismiss all the opponents’ players to win the match. If in both cases the criteria did not match, the match is drawn.
